Critique Paper

       The short story "Puppy Love" by Francisco Sionil Jose published in the year 1900. This story unfold a man's life, love and work. In this story you will find out how fate makes all thing work and how it will end.

       The plot of the story follows the conventional plot line. The author used chronological plotline in the story. The author narrates the events from how tge characters met and how fate changes after time. The story begins by introducing the characters and describes what kind of life they have. The author narrates a story ny reminscing his past life. And by the end of the story by letting their feelings told. The series of event are arranged in order. The climax starts when the main character saw again his so called puppy love after long years. The girl who doesnt recognized him because there are changes happened. This part of the story is exciting to read, you will find out how the events, time and fate evolves among the characters. The story flows smoothly and clearly.

       The story focuses in the life of Jacobo Salcedo or also knowed as Jake, the main character. Jake Salcedo conflicts within himself. He fell in love to the daughter of the richest family in their town. Because of this he keeps on dragging himself down, shows lack of confidence. By the time pass by the ordinary and poor boy became a bachelor and the most trusted hirelings of the well-knowed international company. The main character represents a man who uses his past experiences and love as an inspiration. Gina Garcia, a girl whom is his love when they where you and the daughter of the richest family in their town. The woman who can do all things to have a better life, not just for herself but for her family. Lito Garcia emblematize a good character in a way that he doesnt look on the social status. The status of their lives is not a hindrance to build a friendship.

       The point of view of the story focuses in the main character. The author told the story using chronological way. The author tells the story narratively and use the main character as the point of view. The story flows from the main characters life when he was young, the life after the death of his family and how the life goes on after all the past experiences. The information given in the story is reliable because the point of view discusses how the main characters life changes. The author uses first person, maybe if the author use third person omniscent the story will be more detailed and clearer. But the first person point of view well suited the story.

       The setting on the story was well executed. The auTher describe the place which addeds a mood in the story. One of example is the scene in the bodega, where the author describes the bodega. The big circular rattan basket that is empty and a part of it is lighten by the skylight. The skylight added much more feelings and emotion on the memorable moment of the characters. Its started in the old hometown in San Jacinto before the Japanese war. The author spend a good bit in describing the scene. It makes the reader to think and guest what will happen next. The author makes the description good, for the readers to imagine and draw a image in their mind.

       The title of the story "Puppy Love" can defined that even at young age, you can encounter love and attration with you opposite sex. The theme of this story may have two different definitions. The first one is the fate of love and the second one is to inspire other people to achieve their goals in life. The first one is the fate for love. Despite of all the incidents and circumstances the lobe inside one's heart does not fade. It goes so deeply as the time and year past. The another reason is there are times that unfortunetly what we are expecting the most will not happen. There are love stories that ended up mournful. The second one is to inspire other people to achieve their goals. Despite of lack of opportunities and money you can achieve it by working it hard. If you want something there will be always a way. The circumstances happened in your life, can be use to motivate yourself. Don't stop achieving your goals in life. If it is meant for you, it will happen.
